GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) on Tuesday, December 24, to conduct a review meeting with the institution's authorities. The meeting, held in the presence of Principal Sanjeeb Kakati, MLA Prasanta Phukan, and MP Rameshwar Teli, focused on the hospital's ongoing developments and future plans.
During his visit, the chief minister announced an ambitious ₹300-crore project to construct a modern residential colony for the medical staff. Speaking about the initiative, he said, "The project will replace the decades-old quarters for professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and other personnel."
Principal Kakati welcomed the announcement, highlighting the progress achieved since the Chief Minister's last visit in 2022. He stated that the residential colony would be built in phases to ensure uninterrupted functioning of the hospital. "A model of the proposed colony will be prepared and shared for approval. Once approved, construction will begin," he explained.
