GUWAHATI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police has summoned Bhupen Borah, the state Congress Chief, directing him to appear for questioning on March 2, 2024.

The directive, delivered on Monday, specified that non-compliance would lead to potential arrest. Inspector of Police, CID, in the order, explained that the questioning pertains to the damage caused to public property during the Assam leg of the Congress' Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.

The order, exercising powers under Section 41A of Cr. P.C, highlighted, "there are reasonable grounds to question you to ascertain facts and circumstances from you, in relation to the present investigation. Hence you are directed to appear before the undersigned/me at 11:30 AM on 02/03/2024 at CID Police Station, Ulubari, Guwahati."
The directive also outlined specific conditions that Bhupen Borah must adhere to, emphasizing that failure to comply could result in arrest under section 41A (3) of Cr.P.C. The CID's move comes in the context of the FIR/Case No.55/2024 registered at Police Station: Basistha, invoking various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
