Assam Chief Minister Highlights State's Growth & Opportunities At Advantage Assam 2.0 Road Show In Japan

 

Assam is forging stronger economic ties with Japan, driven by projects and partnerships under the Advantage Assam initiative


GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Advantage Assam 2.0 Japan Road Show on Wednesday, January 22, engaging with over 160 Japanese business leaders. In his address, he highlights Assam's economic growth, which is set to triple next year with a 12.4% growth rate.  He positions the state as an attractive investment hub. Initiatives like a single-window clearance system and a $3 billion production-linked incentive programme aim to deepen ties.

Assam's partnership with Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been a game-changer for the state, driving development across key sectors. Major projects such as the Guwahati Water Supply Project, Guwahati Sewerage Project have been significant for sustainable growth in both urban and rural areas.

Sarma also stated about the construction of the world's longest river bridge, connecting Assam and Meghalaya over the Brahmaputra River. Scheduled for completion in 2027, this 16-kilometre bridge will shorten the distance between West Bengal, Northeast India, and Bangladesh, creating a vital economic corridor to the Chittagong Port. JICA has been essential in promoting this corridor,  improving connectivity and boosting trade over the last six years.
