GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet has decided to issue caste certificates for students from class 9 onwards.
The Deputy Commissioners (DC) will get the application forms printed and distributed through the principals of schools. Moreover, the issued certificates will be distributed through the principals as well.
The decision was taken in the State Cabinet meeting held on Saturday, May 7, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister (CM) Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Furthermore, the Assam Government has approved Mission Bhumiputra to provide caste certificates to SC, ST, OBC and MOBC applicants in a simplified manner.
A single application form will be provided for all castes to ensure a uniform and simplified procedure for issuing caste certificates.
The caste certificates will be issued digitally and stored in a Digi locker. If the father's caste certificate is enclosed and found genuine, the certificate will be issued to the child instantly.
However, if an enquiry is required, it must be completed within 30 days, which is extendable by another 15 days in exceptional cases with due justification.
The details of all certificates issued will be available for public view.
