Assam Budget: Widows to receive Rs. 25,000 under "Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme"

GUWAHATI: Speaking at the Budget 2019-20 meeting, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is launching a new scheme, Immediate Family Assistance wherein any woman who loses her husband, upto the age of 45 years will receive a lump sum amount of Rs 25,000. This will help to support the family tide over the financial vacuum that is often created by the loss of the bread earner of the family, which is usually the male member of the household. 

This will be implemented under the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme and is dedicated to the Indira Miri. 

“I have allocated Rs. 136 crore to cover 40,000 families under ‘Immediate Family Assistance Scheme’ & an estimated 2.4 Lakh widows under this scheme, said the finance minister.
