GUWAHATI: The Assam budget for 2025-26 has made several allocations aimed at cultural preservation, educational research, and infrastructure development. The budget was presented in the assembly by Finance Minister Ajanta Neog on Monday, March 10.

Neog said that a one-time grant of ₹100 crore has been announced for Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra (SSK) to support research, modern preservation techniques, and documentation. This amount will be disbursed in two equal annual installments.
The government will also establish separate Multipurpose Cultural Complexes for various tribes and ethnic communities in districts and co-districts. An initial allocation of ₹100 crore has been made for 20 such auditoria in 2025-26, with ₹5 crore earmarked for each complex.
Meanwhile, Majuli Cultural University will receive ₹50 crore in two instalments to enhance its cultural, educational, and research initiatives. Additionally, a ₹50 crore project has been conceptualised for the preservation of Madhupur Sattra in Cooch Behar, with a request to be made to the central government for its recognition as a heritage site.
Furthermore, the Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture (ABILAC) has been allocated ₹50 crore over three financial years for infrastructure upgradation and research activities.
