GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced a 'Blue Revolution- Sunil Biplab' Scheme in the State Assembly Budget on Friday, July 16. Under the scheme, the Government proposes to encourage community-based fish culture by constructing village community tanks in all revenue villages of Assam.
"At present, there are 26,395 revenue villages in Assam, and it is proposed to take up one village community tank of one hectare each in all revenue villages, " Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog said, while presenting the budget.
In the first phase of the scheme, 10,000 village community tanks are targeted to be constructed in the current financial year 2021-22 in the region. As such, the State aims to ensure an additional 50,000 MT of fish production annually, while ensuring employment for one lakh people.
The expenditure for this Scheme will be accomodated out of the Assam Chief Minister's Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana (CMSGUY) Scheme through Budgetary support.
The Blue Revolution is inspired by the success of the “Ghare Ghare Pukhuri Ghare Ghare Maach” Scheme, which showed that fish ponds constructed on the lines of community ponds are successful in achieving socio-economic development.
