Assam Budget 2020: Expecting Mothers in Tea Gardens to Get Rs 18,000

GUWAHATI: Expecting mothers in tea garden areas will get Rs 18,000 to take care of their health, said Assam State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while presenting the state budget.

Under the scheme, an amount of Rs 18,000 will be given to the pregnant women so that they can take care of themselves and the unborn baby without compromising the livelihood of their family.

The scheme is expected to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in the tea garden areas.

The maternal mortality rate of women working in the tea plantations of Assam is unusually high.
