GUWAHATI: Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma while presenting the Assam Budget 2019-20 on Wednesday, announced that the state government will provide rice at a further subsidized rate of 1 rupee per kg, under ANNA - Affordable Nutrition & Nourishment Assistance.
According to the scheme, the government will provide rice at 1 rupee per kg to every family below the poverty line (BPL) along with some other catagories from state's backward regions.
Presently, rice is provided at Rs 3 per kg. The new rate will come to effect from March 2019.
This initiative is likely to benefit around 53 lakh households in the state.
