Finance Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday while presenting the Assam Budget 2018 approved the PRANAM Act. The act is also known as Assam Employees Parental Responsibility Norms for Accountability Monitoring Act.
The act lays down that it is mandatory for all employees working under Assam Govt to take care of their parents.
The Act goes beyond regulatory boundaries to look after elderly parents and provide benefits that meet their minimum living needs.
The Bill was passed with the objective that no aged and dependent parent/s of the state government employees are compelled to live the last days of their life in old-age home because of negligence of their wards who are state government employees.
