GUWAHATI: Shiva Thapa, the four-time Asian medallist has advanced to the finals of the President’s Cup boxing tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan on Friday, July 19, after defeating Kyrgyzstan's Argon Kadiribekuulu 4-1 in the last four-stage bout in the newly introduced 63 kg category.
Thapa said that he was aggressive in the first round and changed gears to counter-attack in the next round. He added that he was happy to move around smartly and let his opposition do the chasing in the last round.
Two other Indian boxers, Duryodhan Singh Negi (69 kg) and Saweety Boora (81 kg) wound up with bronze medals after losing their respective semifinal bouts.
