GUWAHATI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency, Dilip Saikia urged the centre to declare Srimanta Sankardev's birth anniversary as a national holiday.
"Declaring a nationwide holiday on his birthday would honour the emotions and sentiments of Assamese and the public at large in NE," said Dilip Saikia.
The MP raising the issue during Zero Hour session at the Parliament urged to set up a foundation to conduct programmes and activities for spreading Sankardev's ideology across the country and abroad.
