Assam: Badarpur Police Station OC Reserve Closed

GUWAHATI: Following an incident of firing under the jurisdiction of the Badarpur Police Station, the officer-in-charge of the station was Reserve Closed on Thursday.

The firing incident was reported on Wednesday night.

As per media reports, the OC of Badarpur PS Chandan Goswami was Reserve Closed with immediate effect.

The Badarpur Police had resorted to blank firing while trying to arrest a miscreant, Ruhul Amin.

As per media reports, several complaints were lodged against Amin with the Badar Police Station, and the police on Wednesday went to capture him. When he tried to escape arrest, police blank-fired.

As the firing incident occurred after the Taraweeh Namaz, this enraged locals and surrounded the Badarpur Police Station.

To control the crowd, police again fired a round of bullets.

The situation worsened further, and the crowd blocked the national highway connecting Assam and Tripura. Later, the additional superintendent of police (ASP), Partha Pratim Das, had to rush to the spot to bring the situation under control.

As demanded by the enraged locals, the ASP accepted their demands to reserve close the OC of Badarpur Police Station.

The Karimganj SP also later ordered to reserve close the Badarpur Police Station OC Chandan Goswami.

There was also a reshuffle within the night, and accordingly, Dwipen Kalita was appointed as the new OC of Badarpur Police Station.
