Assam Assembly Elections 2021: Postal Ballot for COVID-19 Infected, PWD Candidates

GUWAHATI: Persons with disability and COVID-19 infected candidates can cast their votes with the use of postal ballots, Nitin Khade, the chief electoral officer of Assam during a press conference on February 27. 


Khade said that the eligible persons can apply within 5 days from the release of the notification. The authorities will then collect the postal ballots from the voters from their respective houses in the area. Collectors will go to the voters' house fully dressed up with COVID protective kits to collect the postal ballots from the PWD and COVID-19 infected participants in the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections this year.


Earlier, postal ballot process in elections was conducted only for armed forces and CRPF personnel. However due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, this year, the authority has taken a decision to conduct polls through postal ballots in the state of Assam.
