GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced financial assistance for the affected families of the accident that occurred in Dergaon which resulted in the loss of 12 lives and left several others injured on January 3.
CM Sarma, who was visiting Golaghat, personally met the families of the deceased during his visit and expressed his heartfelt condolences. Each family that lost a loved one in the tragic accident will receive ₹2 lakh as part of the assistance package.
The incident occurred when a bus carrying 45 picnic-goers from a village collided head-on with a coal-laden truck at Balijan near Dergaon. The collision took place around 5 AM on national highway 37.
The wreckage extraction process revealed ten bodies, including five women and a minor boy. Over 20 other individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor to major.
