GUWAHATI: In a bid to combat the recurring problem of devastating floods, the Assam Government has proposed flood mitigation projects worth ₹450 crore.

These initiatives aim to minimise losses caused by floods and enhance the state's resilience to such natural disasters.

The comprehensive flood mitigation plan includes several key components:

1. New Embankments: The government plans to construct new embankments, collectively spanning a total distance of 59.95 km, as part of 15 schemes.

2. Embankment Enhancement: A crucial aspect of the project involves raising and strengthening existing embankments, covering an extensive area of 46.493 km across 10 schemes.

3. Anti-Erosion Measures: To counter the erosive forces of flooding rivers, anti-erosion works will be implemented, covering a substantial length of 21.063 km through 33 schemes.

4. Pro-Siltation Efforts: Pro-siltation works will be carried out over 17.483 km, involving 22 schemes. These initiatives aim to reduce sedimentation and maintain the optimal flow of rivers.

5. Sluice Gate Installations: The flood mitigation plan also includes the installation of essential infrastructure, such as ten single-shutter sluice gates and seven double-shutter sluice gates, as part of 12 schemes.
