GUWAHATI: The newly floated party by the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), finds itself in troubled waters after its membership drive claims.

As per a party statement, members of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) had shifted to AJP along with General Secretary, Partha Pratim Bezbaruah, and key officials of LDP in different districts.

However, Pradyot Bora, Chairman of LDP India, has rejected such claims and has expressed intentions of even filing a defamation case worth Rs 10 crores. Speaking to G Plus, Bora said, "The numbers ranging that 72 members have joined AJP are exaggerated."

He also accused the AJP Twitter handle of spreading fake news after AJP posted that, "Dibrugarh Committee President and all officials, Kamrup President and few officials, Central President Chandrapal Baruah and state officials, along with youth wing committee Darrang, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Majuli district committee's all officials have joined the AJP.”

The LDP Chairman demanded an apology from AJP on two key issues. "We want a formal letter of apology stating two things: 1. That 72 LDP members did not join AJP, and that you have no means to determine the authenticity of their membership. And 2. That all Office Bearers of LDP Dibrugarh District did not join AJP," Pradyot Bora wrote on twitter.

Responding to claims, G Plus spoke to Basanta Deka, Chief Convenor AJP who said, "We have the list of who has joined our party. We can give them the list if they want and there's no secret behind this."

Meanwhile, the LDP has asked the AJP to respond by the evening of 21st September. "Otherwise, we will have to take the legal route," Bora told G Plus.
