GUWAHATI: In a recent development, the Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has issued an order for the suspension of Kumur Surajeet Bora, ACS, Deputy Secretary to the Assam Government in the Border Protection and Development Department. This action comes in response to reports from the Department, highlighting Bora's prolonged unauthorised absence from office since May 2022, without any prior intimation to the authorities.

The matter took a serious turn when a departmental proceeding was initiated against Bora in March 2023. He was issued a Show Cause Notice under the provisions of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964. The charges brought against him primarily revolved around his extended absence from office, along with allegations of gross indiscipline and misconduct.

Despite the opportunity to defend himself, Bora submitted a written statement of defence on April 25, in which he did not deny the charges levelled against him. Furthermore, he continued to remain absent from his official duties, raising serious concerns regarding his conduct and commitment.

In light of these circumstances, the Governor has deemed it necessary and expedient to take action by ordering the immediate suspension of Bora. This suspension is carried out under the authority of rule 6(1)(a) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964.
