GUWAHATI: The high-level committee on Assam Accord’s Clause 6 headed by Biplab Sharma sent the final report to Assam Chief Secretary.

According to reports, three officials reports were sent to the Chief Secretary and later which it will be forwarded to Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

Although the report was signed by the committee on February 10, the Centre is unlikely to accept some recommendations of the high-level committee on Assam Accord’s Clause 6.

The recommendations have triggered a wave of criticism in the state over the 1951 cut-off date to make one eligible for benefits under Clause 6.

A government official said the recommendation for bringing entire Assam under provisions of the Inner Line Permit will have to be examined legally.

It is to be mentioned that with the submission of the report the Committee now becomes 'functus officio'.

Functus officio refers to an officer or agency whose mandate has expired, due to either the arrival of an expiry date or an agency having accomplished the purpose for which it was created.
