GUWAHATI: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) organised a protest within the premises of Bodoland University in Kokrajhar, calling for the removal of Vice Chancellor (VC) Laishram Ladu Singh. This demand follows Singh's arrest on corruption charges by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and the Chief Minister's Vigilance Cell.
Over the past several days, ABSU has been consistently raising their voices for the removal of the VC, with plans to escalate the protest on October 11. Speaking to media, Dipen Boro, the President of ABSU, emphasised that the protest would persist until Singh is ousted.
The protesting students expressed their dissatisfaction with the inquiry committee established by the Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, which includes Mihir Kanti Choudhury of Secretariat Adviser Governor House, the Additional Chief Secretary to the Assam Government Higher Education Department, Professor SK Dev of the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Guwahati, and BB Misra, the Finance Officer at Tezpur University.
In light of their concerns about the investigation process, ABSU has demanded the immediate removal of Singh from the position of VC.
A case of embezzlement involving a significant sum of money from the university was registered against the VC on May 30 last year. The CM Vigilance Cell confiscated three files from the university's documents, and VC Singh was later granted bail after his arrest.
