On the occasion of completion of one year of the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) movement, the newly elected AASU leadership has announced a relaunch of the same with a ‘Gono Hoonkar’ (public outcry).

In a press release published by the students’ union, General Secretary Shankar Jyoti Baruah and President Dipanka Kumar Nath announced, “The government has to repeal the imposed anti-Assam law that has already taken the lives of five Assamese citizens including innocent students. The families of the five martyrs and AASU will continue to seek justice.”

Earlier, singer Zubeen Garg had also called for a similar relaunch of the massive anti-CAA agitation that had to be halted due to the global pandemic.

The non-violent movement that started as a students’ agitation on 11th December 2019, after the central government had passed the Citizenship Amendment Act in the Rajya Sabha, turned violent after five people were killed in police and army firing.
