Assam: 1.9 Lakh People to Receive Covid-19 Vaccine from Today

GUWAHATI: Vaccination drives have started across the country from today.


Health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on 15th January, informed that the vaccine will be rolled out in four categories. "About 90 lakh to 1 crore people of the state will be vaccinated in the first phase," he said.


The categories include 1.9 lakh health workers in the first category (covid warriors like doctors, nurses and sanitary workers), 1 lakh frontline workers (Police, para-military) in the 2nd category. These 2.9 lakh recipients have already been registered in the 'COVIN' portal of the central government.


"Only people who are registered in this portal will be eligible to receive the vaccine," he said.


The first 1.9 lakh people will be vaccinated from 16th January. 


8651 'vaccinators' (nurses) have been trained to administer the Covid-19 vaccine in Assam at 65 sites. 1300 doctors will supervise the 'vaccinators'.


As on 15th January there are 1656 active cases in Assam, and the recovery rate is 98.10 percent. The death rate is 0.49 percent. 


"Since 31st December, the daily number of infected patients have been about 50 people," said Sarma.
