GUWAHATI: The Asmita Rugby League is gearing up for its next tournament, scheduled to be held on November 9 and 10,2024 at Goreswar Higher Secondary School in Tamulpur, Assam. Organised under the Khelo India initiative, this event aims to promote women's participation in sports, with 288 athletes from 24 teams competing across Under 15, Under 18, and Senior categories.

The tournament promises a showcase of women’s rugby, with prize money totalling ₹ 3 lakh to be awarded directly to winners through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). The event will also be funded with a ₹ 2.6 lakh grant to the National Sports Federation to cover organisational costs.
This instalment of the Asmita Rugby League is part of a broader mission under the Khelo India programme, which promotes sports among women nationwide through various leagues across 18 sports disciplines at inter-district, zonal, and national levels. This initiative is a significant platform for young women to gain competitive exposure, empowering them to showcase their athletic skills and resilience.
The tournament is set to be inaugurated by Tamulpur District Commissioner Pankaj Chakraborty, marking another step forward in the growth of women’s rugby in India and in Assam’s local sporting culture.
