Simultaneously, the government has also instituted a departmental inquiry to ascertain the circumstances leading to the lapse on the part of the officers.

Those suspended are Konkonyoti Saikia (Tinsukia Election Officer), Parismita Dihingia (Bokakhat Election Officer), Jintu Sharma (Jonai Assistant Commissioner), Saroj Kumar Deka (Parbatjhora Assistant Commissioner) and Kabya Shree Dihingia (Baksa Election Officer).

According to the suspension orders, the officers failed to report to their newly assigned posts.

They have been suspended under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1964, effective immediately.

The bye-elections will be held on November 13 for Samaguri, Behali, Dholai, Bongaigaon and Sidli assembly seats. These seats fell vacant after the incumbent MLAs shifted to the Lok Sabha following their victories in the Lok Sabha elections earlier this year.
