The train, initially scheduled to travel to Silchar, was to abruptly halt in Lumding, disrupting the plans of hundreds of young candidates who had come from various parts of Assam and beyond. Many were en route to Silchar to take an army recruitment exam scheduled for Friday, November 15.
The sudden change, attributed to ongoing repair work, sparked frustration and anger among the passengers. In protest, the stranded candidates gathered outside the Paltan Bazar Police Station, voicing their grievances and chanting slogans against Indian Railways.
In response to the unrest, the officials decided to resume the train’s journey to Silchar, ensuring candidates could reach their exam venue.
Speaking on the incident, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) explained, “The train bound for Silchar was short-terminated at Lumding due to essential repairs. However, given the passengers' concerns—especially those of the army recruitment candidates—we resumed the service to Silchar, and repair work will continue.
