GUWAHATI: Nineteen accused in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) cash for job scam were today arrested by Dibrugarh Police after their handwriting test at the Kahilipara-based Special Branch of Assam Police on July 18.
The accused – 13 Assam Civil Service (ACS) officials, three Assam Police Service (APS) officials one District Transport official (DTO) and one tax inspector – were earlier last week summoned by the Dibrugarh Police to put their signatures for the handwriting test.
A team, led by Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Gautam Borah, arrested the officials from Special Branch Headquarters.
The arrested officials are : Pallavi Sharmah (APS), Suranjita Hazarika (DTO), Utpal Bhuyan (ACS), Barnali Das (ACS), Susovan Das (ACS), Dhruvojyoti Chakraborty (ACS), Manzoor Ilahi Laskar (ACS), Moon Mazoomdar (ACS), Mustafa Ahmed Borbhuyan (ACS), Saibur Rahman Borbhuyan (ACS), Monika Teronpi (ACS), Ganesh Chandra Das (ACS), Srabanti Sen Gupta (ACS), Deepsikha Phukan (ACS), Leena Krishna Kakati (ACS), Gulshan Daolagpu (APS), Bhargav Phukan (APS), Rituraj Neog (Tax Superintendent ) and Nipon Kumar Pathak (Tax Inspector).
The arrested personal will be now produced at the Special Court in Guwahati from where, either they will be given transit custody if the police chose to question further or will be remanded to judicial custody.
So far, about 65 such official has been arrested and among those who have been charge-sheeted, the prime accused Rakesh Paul’s brother Rajesh Paul and another suspended APS officer Rakesh Gupta are still absconding. It is believed that Paul has taken shelter in Nepal.
