After a chilly ride on the NH37 we made our way towards the 19th International Leo Expo being held at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati. We were welcomed with the aroma of freshly popped corns which led us to the popcorn and cotton candy stall.
Starting with home decor items to home appliances and make up and health essentials, Leo Expo is targeting to cater to each age group.
Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises has set up multiple stalls giving vendors from various parts of India to showcase their products. Leo expo is providing a great platform for local entrepreneurs to showcase their craft on a larger scale to a larger audience.
For the shopping enthusiasts out there this is a great opportunity to shop for items from various parts of the world including dry fruits from Afghanistan, flowers and fashion accessories from Thailand, show pieces from Turkey, Sri Lankan gems and tea to name a few.
Stalls by various Indian states have been put up which include Jaipuri blankets, Lucknowi & Kashmiri clothes, Khadi products, items of home decor & home appliances, traditional Assamese jewellery, Mekhela Chador and other products from various parts of the northeast to name a few.
A range of handicraft products of Assam has been displayed on a large scale for the shopping enthusiasts. A large delegation representing Bodoland’s Industry and Commerce Department and NSIC has also participated in the expo.
There are arrangements for cultural nights every evening. The beautiful main stage and the pretty light decorations work as a great space for Instagrammable pictures.
The expo will also be organising an art competition which will be held from classes 1-10 in three different groups. The first, second, and third prize winners will be rewarded with Rs 15,000 along with Mini Fridge, Rs 9,000 along with an Electric Kettle and Rs 5,000 along with a Juicer. The last date to register in the competition is November 7.
Leo Expo started its first venture with trade fares in the year 2000 and since its inception it has never looked back receiving an overwhelming response from customers, sellers and participants.
Food lovers out there can find a huge range of savoury items along with pickles from various parts of the country. The food section also includes mukhwas and locally made honey, coconut ladoo and more. There is a separate food section where people can sit and enjoy meals like biryani, chaats and various kulfis.
