Amid Strict Law & Order Assam Police to Use Drones for Surveillance in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Post 'Unlock 1' the Assam government has decided to go under complete lockdown in Kamrup district from June 29. With this, the city police have decided to use five drones for surveillance to ensure a strict lockdown in Guwahati.

Speaking to G Plus, Mayank Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic said, "We are using drones to do surprise surveillance in major parts of the city."

"We will focus more on the areas which have reported more COVID-19 cases such as Fancy Bazar, Hatigaon etc as in these places more cases of lockdown violation was reported earlier," he added.

Speaking to media, Police Commissioner Munna Prasad Gupta said that along with the drones, police forces will keep round-the-clock surveillance in every location of the city.

“Already we have made public announcements to make the people aware about the lockdown. This time there will be no compromise. Any violation of the lockdown will attract legal action as per the Disaster Management Act and IPC,” Gupta said.

Meanwhile, all establishments, offices, shops and services, including some essential commodities with remain shut except pharmacies and medical services.
