Ambubachi Mela: Footfall at Fancy Bazaar camp less than expected

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (M) district administration had made lodging arrangements for over 40,000 devotees to stay at a total of six campsites situated at Pandu, Naharbari, Badipara and Fancy Bazaar.

While three camps were set up at the Fancy Bazaar old jail site to accommodate 20,000 devotees, the campsite has received very less footfall with only 6,000 people registering there in the past three days.

"The gathering this year is much less than anticipated. We had made arrangements for 20,000 people to stay at Fancy Bazaar campsite but less than one-third crowd has turned up," a source at the Fancy Bazaar camp administration informed G Plus.

Lakhs of devotees have thronged Kamakhya temple and nearby areas in order to take part in the one of the biggest religious congregation of the state.
