GUWAHATI: Ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections, an all-women regional political party named Mohilar Dal has been formed. The party has planned to contest the upcoming polls with only women candidates.

G Plus spoke to Party President Bhabani Boro, who stated that the party has been formed due to the failures of regionalist forces to come together under an umbrella.

"Women suffer the most when these things happen," said Boro.

The party president commented that women's contribution towards political struggles has been overlooked by successive political parties.

"There are women leaders but the representation is very less. Look at Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). The party was formed after Assam Andolan where a lot of women participated. But, there were few women politicians who were given the chance," Boro told G Plus.

Now, they believe that a similar situation has arisen after the recent Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest which led to the formation of a new all women political party.

"The new regional political parties have not been able to take women into its fold," said the party president.

The party has not yet taken a decision regarding how many candidates it will forward in the upcoming Assembly Elections. So far, five candidates have been decided.
