GUWAHATI: Many unauthorised junior colleges in and around Guwahati have emerged recently owing to a high volume of students with lesser seating capacity and higher cut-offs percentages.
In the wake to identify and also to clampdown these institutions, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has ordered a probe against them all.

According to a report in the Assam Tribune, AHSEC Chairman, Dr Dayananda Borgohain, has ordered an inquiry against seven such colleges that include Kamrup Metropolitan College at Sonapur, Dr Bhabendranath Saikia Senior Secondary School and Sikshadoot Gopinath Sarma Junior College at Khetri, and Vinayak Academy, Sri Nivas Academy, Gyanam Academy and Akansha Junior College at Jagiroad.
Borgohain also said that the department has received information about 60-70 such junior colleges across the state and that most of them are offering higher secondary courses in the Arts stream.
According to reports, verification of these college establishments will be carried out by a team of educationists and if irregularities are detected, the said institutions will be shut down and their students will be transferred to nearby government higher secondary schools.
