GUWAHATI: In an effort to curtail illegal gambling activities in the city, a dedicated team from Gorchuk Police Station conducted a successful operation.
The operation culminated in the apprehension of five individuals suspected of involvement in unlawful gambling practices.
The raid was executed at the Katabari Nijorapar area, and it resulted in the detention of the five individuals from the Gorchuk locality.
The apprehended individuals are Rupjyoti Nath, Harideb Singha, Khwrwmdao Khaklary, Abdul Rauf, and Meher Hussain.
Guwahati Police put out a statement on X, which read, “#DriveAgainstGambling A WGPD team from Gorchuk PS busted a gambling den following a raid at the Katabari Nijorapar area last night. 5 persons - Rupjyoti Nath, Harideb Singha, Khwrwmdao Khaklary, Abdul Rauf & Meher Hussain, all from the Gorchuk area - were arrested.”
The festive period of Diwali witnesses a surge in gambling activities before and during the celebrations.
