GUWAHATI: A state-of-the-art Robotic Surgery System at the State Cancer Institute (SCI) was inaugurated today, April 13, by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati. The newly introduced robotic surgery technology offers surgeons enhanced precision, superior control, and 3D visualization during procedures, enabling minimally invasive surgeries with improved recovery times for patients. This development positions the SCI as a leading center for advanced cancer treatment in the region.

The SCI, established as part of the Assam Cancer Care Project—a collaboration between the Assam Government and Tata Trusts—has significantly expanded its services. The five-story institute now boasts 350 beds, offering comprehensive services including radiation therapy, chemotherapy, various surgical procedures, nuclear medicine, bone marrow transplants, and dedicated facilities for academics and research.

CM also announced plans for the completion of seven additional state cancer institutes in 2025 and 2026, further strengthening the region's healthcare infrastructure.
