GUWAHATI: Assam government has sanctioned ₹11,96,500 (Rupees Eleven Lakhs Ninety-Six Thousand Five Hundred) on January 4 as compensation for residents affected by the recent pipe burst incident in Kharghuli under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project (GWSP).

The incident, which occurred on January 2, 2025, caused significant damage to residential properties in the area. The compensation will be disbursed to affected households in accordance with Section 80 of The Guwahati Metropolitan Drinking Water & Sewerage Board Act, 2009, which outlines the general provisions for compensating individuals impacted by such events.
Authorities have released a detailed list of the affected households eligible for the compensation which has been attached below. This also comes after ₹1,20,000 was handed over to each of the four families whose houses suffered severe damage after yesterday, who are also included in this list.
