GUWAHATI: The Akhil Gogoi-led Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) has decided to float a new party ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly Elections 2021. This comes days after the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) formed the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).
G Plus spoke to Mukut Deka, Joint Secretary, KMSS, who revealed that the talks for the structure ahead are being assessed for the party. The newly planned party by KMSS is expected to have the support of 70 organisations among other indigenous groups.
However, as per popular estimations, the tie-up with AASU didn't materialise as the student union formed a party separately. The KMSS even waited for AASU's communication on the combined party forming.
"We earlier asked AASU to form a single party under one flag but they went separately. So there's no foundation for a one flag party now," said Mukut Deka.
G Plus spoke to Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) Joint Secretary, Dharjya Konwar, who stated that as of now only discussions have been going on to proceed ahead. The peasant leader acknowledged that "AASU didn't help the cause of regionalism".
"We earlier wanted one flag and one party as a way to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Now, we are discussing with students and indigenous groups to form an inclusive party to take all regional powers together," Konwar said.
The name of the party by KMSS will also be decided in a key meeting set to be held on September 29.
