AASU Invites PM Modi for Open Debate on Assam Accord, CAA

GUWAHATI: Amids the ongoing deliema on Cluse 6 and Citizenship Amendement Act (CAA), All Assam Students' Union (AASU) invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for an open debate on the implementation of Assam Accord and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Reportedly, some of the members of the high-level committee on Assam Accord's Clause 6 are unhappy with some of the clauses of the Accord.

"We have sent a written letter to the Union government apprising them that the report is ready and it may be collected or it may be directed to send. We had supposed to be given an appointment on February 18, but till today we haven't received any intimation," said Biplab Sharma who heads the high-level committee.

Meawhile Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said, "The prime minister, Union home minister and the Assam Chief Minister and other leaders are always telling the people and mentioning that they are waiting for the committee's report. Now the committee's report is ready. Now it is the duty of the Centre and the state government. The aim of the committee is very clear that as per the Assam Accord, we have taken the load of both Hindus and Muslims from 1951 to 1971 and lieu of that Clause 6 of the Assam Accord had given a commitment to give constitution safeguard."
