AASU - AJYCP Launches New Political Party 'AJP'

GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday announced the naming of their new political party as ‘Assam Jatiya Parishad’ (AJP).

AASU and AJYCP had taken the step at forming a new political party ahead of the upcoming assembly elections 2021 after both the groups spearheaded the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests. The convenor of the party Basanta Deka announced this in a press conference in Guwahati.

Former Assam Minister Jagadish Bhuyan named the coordinator of the party. Names of several district-level party leaders were also announced in the press conference.

Earlier, the Asom Paramarshadata Committee formed by the AASU and the AJYCP had finalised the “political” roadmap of the party; however, the exact nature of the political party and its goals still remains a topic of discussion.

The AASU has said that they will maintain their 'non-political character' even after the party formation.
