GUWAHATI: A total of 80 tribal languages from Northeast are facing the threat of extinction.
Further as per reports, 21 mother languages are also on the verge of extinction. Apart from Assam, other states from which tribal languages are facing the threat include Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Nagaland.

As per a recent survey, the population of Naga Taba tribe of Manipur has reduced to 870. On the other hand, the Naga Poyome tribe of Manipur has 3000 people and the number of people who have kept alive the language of Moyon tribe are merely 3700.
Moreover, in the Chinte tribe of Manipur a total of 10, 200 people have kept alive its language, while 13,000 from the Nathini Tribe and 17,000 from Posori tribe.
