7,988 ‘Fake’ MGNREGS Job Cards Detected In Assam

 

GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Rural Development Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti informed on Tuesday that 7,988 job cards have been found ‘fake’ and were deleted in the year 2022-23 in Assam.

Replying to an unstarred question raised by Deepak Adhikari in Lok Sabha, the minister said 7,988 cards under the MGNREGS were found to be ‘fake’ in Assam and were deleted.   

In 2021-22, the Ministry had detected 3,156 job cards in Assam as ‘fake’, and was deleted from the register.

Uttar Pradesh topped the list of the highest number of ‘fake’ job cards in India. As many as 2,96,464 were deleted in Uttar Pradesh in 2022-23, the minister informed, adding that 1,14,333 ‘fake job cards were detected in Odisha, which were subsequently deleted.

Job Card deletion and updation is a continuous process and the exercise is conducted by the states regularly.

As per Section 25 of the Act, whoever contravenes the provisions of this Act shall on conviction be liable to a fine which may extend to one thousand rupees.
