735 Fresh COVID-19 Cases Reported in Assam, 400 From Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Assam reported 735 new cases of COVID-19 with 400 detected in Guwahati city alone, as per state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma's twitter update at 11:30 PM on July 12.

Kamrup Metro happens to be the worst affected district in the state and is the new COVID-19 hotspot of the region.

The district has been under a 28-day lockdown since 29 June. Meanwhile, certain relaxations have been announced in Kamrup Metro for people to be able to procure essentials.

According to an estimate by the state health ministry, the number of COVID-19 cases was supposed to begin to show a downward trend from July 10 but numbers continue to rise.

The present coronavirus tally of Assam stands at 16,806, of which 5,873 are currently active. The number of persons cured and discharged stands at 10,894 while the death toll is at 36. Three persons have migrated to other states.
