GUWAHATI: 7-year-old Licypriya Kanguam from Manipur is making heads turn all over the world as she has taken it upon herself to ask the government to take concrete action to save the environment.
Based on a report by Storypick, she is being heralded as India’s own Greta Thunberg, the teenage environmental activist who has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize and has created a movement worldwide to address the risks of climate change.
Following in Thunberg’s footsteps, Kanguam earlier this year stood outside the Indian parliament in New Delhi with a sign that read, “Dear Mr. Modi and MPs, pass the climate change law and save our future.”
In October, the environmental activist is all set to march from India Gate to Parliament House with 1 million school children to get the Climate Change law enacted.
In June 2018, the 7-year-old founded “The Child Movement” to fight against climate crisis. She is reportedly the youngest participant of COP14 and and was also awarded the “World Children Peace Prize 2019” from Global Peace Index, Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) in the Maldives.
Kanguam has also attended and spoken on various international platforms such as the United Nations Asia-Pacific Climate Week 2019 in Bangkok, Destination Climate Action Summit 2019 and International Conference on Sustainability Education 2019 in New Delhi.
