Addressing an NRC Press Meet on Wednesday, M. Angamuthu, DC of Kamrup (M) said, “A total of 11.49 Lakh people from Guwahati applied for NRC, out of which, the names of around 7.5 Lakh people has appeared in the first draft of the NRC.” He further added that the work for the second phase will start from January 5.
Issuing a clarification, the Angamuthu said, ‘applicants who don't find their names in the first draft of the NRC should not fear or be apprehensive as the verification process is still underway and will complete soon.’
Verification of each individual is being done meticulously in a fair and objective manner to ensure that names of all genuine Indian citizens as per cut off date are included in the NRC.
Added to that, the administration has issued a contact number for the public to register any complaint and a control room has been set up in the DC's office which is functional from 8AM to 9PM on all office days. The contact number for this control room is 1070.
