66 Indian Airports Operating On 100% Green Energy, Says Minister Of Aviation

GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in India has initiated a pioneering effort to make the nation's airports carbon neutral and achieve net-zero carbon emissions. This initiative involves standardising a Carbon Accounting and Reporting framework for Indian airports, urging operators to map and reduce carbon emissions systematically.

According to the latest update from the MoCA, major airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have not only achieved a remarkable Level 4+ accreditation from the Airports International Council (ACI) but have also been declared carbon neutral. 

General (Dr) V. K. Singh (Retd), the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, he revealed that 66 Indian airports operating entirely on 100% green energy. He also stated that airport operators with scheduled operations have been advised to gradually work towards carbon neutrality and net zero emissions. The focus is on implementing a phased approach to meet these ambitious goals.

The government has also extended its guidance to developers of upcoming Greenfield Airports, urging them to prioritize carbon neutrality and net-zero strategies, including the use of green energy sources. This holistic approach aims to create a sustainable aviation ecosystem that aligns with global environmental standards.
