GUWAHATI: In recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of art and culture, Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has announced Silpi Pensions for several distinguished artists. This decision was made under the Assam Award of Pension to Artists & Special Pension to their Families Rules, 1987.
Effective from January 17, 2024, a total of 62 artists have been selected for the prestigious Silpi Pension, each receiving ₹8000 per month. The recipients were chosen for their exceptional work in various artistic domains during the year 2023-2024.
The list includes renowned names from Guwahati such as Rita Mahalia, Shanta Uzir, Madhav Sarma, Hiren Bora, Ratan Das, Girija Das, Dhiren Baruah and Mukut Bora. The diverse range of fields covered includes singing, acting, fine arts, and traditional cultural practices.
In addition to the Silpi Pensions, the Governor also approved Family Pensions for 11 artists, honoring their legacy and recognising the integral support provided by their families.
