60-Year-Old Veteran, Two Others From Assam Win Medals At National Benchpress Championship

GUWAHATI: A 60-year-old doctor was among three athletes from Assam who have done the state proud winning medals at the 33rd National Sub-junior, Junior, Senior & Masters (Men & Women) Classic and Equipped Benchpress Championship, held in Madgaon, Goa, from October 14 to 18.

Jyoti Prasad Hatibaruah, 60, a veteran from Dibrugarh, earned a silver medal in equipped powerlifting and a bronze in classic powerlifting in the 74 kg category for master-3 men. Competing at over 60 years of age, Hatibaruah's achievements are a testament to his strength and dedication.

Bhitali Das, a 22-year-old from Kamrup Rural, secured a silver medal in the 43-kg junior women's equipped powerlifting category, and added a bronze medal in classic powerlifting. Bhitali, the youngest among Assam's medalists, hails from Sarpara and is currently pursuing her graduation at Dakshin Kamrup College, Mirza.

Krishna Kumar Sharma, from Jorhat, brought home a silver medal in the 93 kg category for master-1 men in equipped powerlifting. Sharma, who is over 40 years old, impressed with his performance at the national level.
