The recently held state cabinet meeting decided on further expansion of benefits in the Atal Amrit Abhiyan scheme so that it can help more people, said the health minister.

Atal Amrit Abhiyan is a health assurance scheme which was launched in December 2016 to cover six diseases such as Japanese Encephalitis (JE), non-cancer bone marrow transplantation and provide critical care such as admission in intensive care unit (ICU).

Sarma took to Twitter and stated, “1.7 cr people enrolled for this scheme in cardio, neuro, burns, cancer, kidney, neo-natal. About 60,000 people have availed of the benefits so far.”

He added that the scheme would cover all ICU packages, all trauma cases, all critical care paediatrics and paediatric surgery. The expanded scheme would also cover Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES).

“The expanded Atal Amrit Abhiyan would be applicable to all families with annual income of up to Rs 5 lakh, while individually it would cover expenses upto Rs 2 lakhs. I am happy in the way the government has been able to respond to health needs of people in Assam” he said.
