GUWAHATI: Close to 500 Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) qualified teachers from Kamrup metro and rural districts gathered near the deputy commissioner’s office in Guwahati on June 18 to protest against the government for not regularising their jobs.
They took out a rally and protested outside the DC office on Tuesday and also submitted a memorandum to him.
These teachers have been working on contractual basis since after passing their examinations. There are close to 41,000 contractual teachers working in different parts of Assam who have been demanding regularisation of jobs for the past many years.

They have demanded immediate regularisation of their jobs and are seeking the Chief Minister’s intervention in the matter.
“We want the authorities to make our post regular as we have been working across the state since we were appointed,” said a TET-qualified teacher.
Recently, state education minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya while responding to a question by a TET-qualified teacher on radio said that TET teachers will have to renew their qualification or the certificate of the examination, similar to drivers’ licence which needs to be renewed from time to time.
Condemning his comment, the TET teachers have said they will not sit for the TET examination again.
The teachers also informed that TET teachers from across Assam will gather outside the secretariat on June 29 if the government fails to take any positive step for their welfare.
