39 Cr Poor Persons Receive Financial Aid under PM Garib Kalyan Yojana

GUWAHATI: A day after the first lockdown was announced, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced various packages for the benefit of the poor and backward sections of society aimed to help them survive during this period. 

As per a progress report published by the Ministry of Finance, around 39 crore poor people received financial assistance of Rs 34,800 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP) as on 5th May.
8.19 beneficiaries received the first installment under PM-KISAN scheme which amounted to Rs. 16,394.

As for the women beneficiaries having the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Rs 10.025 crore have been credited to 20.05 crore accounts, which is 96.33% of the holders. A second installment of a total of Rs 2,785 crore has been credited to 5.57 crore account holders till the 5th of May. 

Moreover, Rs 1405 crore has been credited to the bank accounts of about 2.82 crore old age persons, widows and disabled persons.

Additionally, over Rs 3492 crores have been provided to 2.20 crore building and construction workers.
