30th Oct Serial Bomb Blast: A Blot in the History of Assam

GUWAHATI: Twelve years ago, on this date, Guwahati and parts of Assam witnessed massive blasts that claimed more than 50 innocent lives in Guwahati itself.


The blasts conceived by NDFB’s Ranjan Daimary saw bloodshed in Ganeshguri, Panbazar, Kachari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar, and Bongaigaon.


To pay tribute to the departed souls a programme was arranged at Ganeshguri today followed by condolence meeting. 


Guwahati Development Department (GDD) minister Siddhartha Bhattacharya was present at the programme to pay his tributes by lighting a candle. Other officials present include Guwahati MP Queen Oja, Dispur MLA Atul Bora, media advisor to the Chief Minister of Assam Hrishikesh Goswami, DC of Kamrup (M) Biswajit Pegu and Guwahati commissioner of police Munna Prasad Gupta.


The family members of the deceased were also present on the occasion. 


Remembering the departed souls, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal posted on twitter, “Solemn tributes and prayers for the victims of the October 30, 2008 serial bomb blasts in Assam.”


October 30 is marked as a black day in the history of Assam, as serial blasts rocked the state in 2008, leaving hundreds of people dead.
