According to reports, VS Rathore, Ri-bhoi’s Superintendent of Police, said that most of the accidents were caused by excessive speeding. Nearly half of the deceased were from outside the state, suggesting the need for better awareness and enforcement measures for visiting motorists. Drunk driving has also been identified as a significant factor in several of the recorded crashes.

Rathore reportedly stated that the police remain in constant coordination with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). While the NHAI has ruled out engineering faults on the expressway, it has urged motorists to exercise caution. The police have also requested the installation of speed limit signage and are planning to introduce barricades at stretches known for high-speed driving.

Additionally, routine checks have been stepped up along the expressway to control rash driving. Truck drivers using the route have been instructed to maintain lane discipline, and authorities are enforcing strict rules for the safe parking of heavy vehicles.
